2018 Contest Rules

DEADLINE:

We are in the process of developing a system to accept submissions electronically. Please check back on our website on November 1st for information regarding this.

Entries must be postmarked between November 1, 2017 and January 19, 2018 (Edgar Allan Poe’s Birthday).

All entries must be in English, unpublished, original, and not scheduled for publication before 01 May, 2018. Author retains copyright.

Entries must be typed. Use white 8.5 x 11 inch paper and standard fonts, 12 – 14 point.

Poems that have previously won a monetary award in a PSV contest are ineligible. Submit only one poem per category. No poem may be entered in more than one category

Submit two copies of each poem. Both copies must have the category name and number on top left of page. Only one copy must include the poet’s name, address, e-mail address if any, and phone number on top right of page. Note membership status in the PSV.

Members of PSV do not pay an entry fee. Non-member fee is $5 for poem, submitted by separate check (from the membership check).

Entries will be recycled. All entries not in compliance with category specifications will be disqualified.

Winning poems will be read and honored at the 2018 Poetry Society of Virginia Awards Ceremony April 22, 2018 at a location to be announced.

Winning poems will be published on the Poetry Society of Virginia’s website with poet’s permission.
