writing a poem

  • After Lucille Clifton

the poet bathes

streams of words

flow across her breasts

down her back

settle between her legs

she grasps at letters

before they fall further

scoops them in her hands

and lets them slip through

her fingers.        they puddle

on the page, still warm.
