Students may enter the individual prize categories below in the appropriate grade level category. Poem entered cannot be entered in other grade level category. All entries can be included in one envelope. Entry rules apply to all categories. Please specify the name of the prize at the top left-hand corner on the entry.

Winners will be notified in April, 2017 and posted on the website.


ENTRY RULES
1. Entries may either be mailed via USPS or emailed. 2. All entries must be in English, original and
unpublished. Author retains copyright.
3. Poems that have previously won an award in a
Poetry Society of VA contest are not eligible for entry. Poems submitted to the Poetry VA Student Contest cannot be submitted to the Poetry VA Adult Contest.
4. For emailed entries the same rules for mailed entries below but ATTACH poems and cover letter to email. Do not put poems in the body of an email.
5. For either Mailed or Emailed Entries:
Submit TWO copies of each poem (one without poet’s name).
Submit a cover sheet containing:
Contest Category being entered,
Poem name,
Poet’s name (If school policy prohibits release of a student’s full name, please provide a teacher’s name as a contact).
Address (can use your school address),
E-mail address (can use teacher’s email),
Phone number (can use school phone number), School & teacher’s name and student grade level. Submit only one poem per category.
6. Poems must include a statement on the cover sheet to verify that it is an original work by the poet. (Example: This is my original poem. I wrote it by myself.)
7. Entries, including the cover sheet, must be typed or computer printed on 8.5 x 11 inch paper.
8. Entries will not be returned.
9. Entries must be postmarked or e-mailed between
Nov. 1, 2016 and Jan. 19, 2017. Entries will NOT be accepted by special delivery, certi ed or registered mail, FedEx or UPS.
We will publish rst, second, and third prize winners’ poems, name (with the parents’ permission), school and teacher on our website in April 2017 after notifying the winners.
