Terror Strikes

There’s where they stood, so tall and grand,
Man’s two great monuments to mortal man.
New York’s pride of a skyline’s grand view
Proudly rising above all others into the blue.

Gloriously they posed a magnificent sight,
Providing a guide by day and by night.
The city’s main features of the skyline steep
Were giants in this city that is never asleep.

Once they did stand there straight and true,
These World Trade Towers one and two.
Then one sad day the hand of terror struck,
These mighty buildings fell like so much muck.

Great anguish, sadness and heartfelt pity
Spread throughout each village, town and city.
Resolve was awakened, speeches were made,
The high and low of the land joined the parade.

The politicians promise they will punish the foe.
The President and the Congress are ready to go.
People want vengeance for this terrible lost of life
That has pierced the American heart like a knife.

A terrible thing was this act of evil upon our land
When Godless men struck with so devilish a plan.
Shock spread across the nation both far and near
At losing these thousands of loved ones so dear.

We cry out to God, why did this happen? Why?
Why! Oh God, did so many people have to die?
In our pain and agony we cry out in our need
To the God we ignored while we fed our greed.

What are God’s thoughts on this anger and effort,
At all the prayer’s sent up for peace and comfort,
While throughout our land His message is unheard,
His laws ridiculed, His Son reduced to a swearword?

Perhaps He wonders why our reaction was not so clear
Over millions killed in the womb, as we shed not a tear.
What should His reaction be, over this, our terrible sin?
A warning? A terrible blow by the hand of terrible men?

Did God mean for this to be America’s wake up call?
Could this be a step toward our nation’s down fall?
What now, my friends, when the dust settles down—
Will we again forget God wears the sovereign crown?
