Round Robin Poems on the Internet
Some of our members enjoy creating round robin poems using email. In a round robin poem, each poet adds a line or lines then passes the poem on to the next poet who adds another line, and so on. We have done poems that just develop as the different participants desire, for example, after being given the first line, each participant decides if their line will rhyme or not and the subject matter. The length of this type of poem is determined by the number of participants. We have also done sonnets which have strict line lengths, rhyme and meter.
One of us "manages" the development of the poem, assuring that the lines are added with a degree of speed. We are usually allowed two days to add a line, but some return their lines in less than a day. It has been very interesting to see how the different poems evolved.
A New Round Robin Has Begun
We have started a new round robin poem, using a form found in the Psalms. This form is written in couplets. The first line makes a statement and the second line reiterates the statement using different words. Here is what our participating poets have been asked to do:
-add a line completing the couplet your predecessor began, your line reiterating the first line of the couplet. -add a line starting a new couplet that the next poet will complete.
There are no requirements for rhyme, meter or syllable count.
The subject of our poem is Autumn, and all that Autumn implies.
