Dr. Latorial Faison named Virginia Poet Laureate on July 20, 2026 by Gov. Abigail Spanberger. Dr. Faison is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Languages & Literature at Virginia State University. Her poetry collection, Nursery Rhymes in Black, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 2025. Dr. Faison will serve as Poet Laureate until June 2028.
